The Effect of the Running Clearance to the Braking Force

A typical air disc brake generates the braking torque by friction between rotor and pads located on both sides of rotor. Friction causes pad to wear every time brakes are applied. As a result, gap called running clearance is created Automatic adjuster compensates for keep stable. If any malfunction occurs in automatic adjuster, will not self-adjust get larger. In this study, effect clearances performance was analyzed. Braking forces caused were calculated from brake’s mathematical model different compared with experimental results. Both results indicate that force affected clearance. Air chamber stroke increases proportionally as increase but it has physical limit. The mechanical advantage ratio operating shaft higher at large values observed chamber, which provides input inversely after 50mm pushrod stroke. Excessive combined high deflections pressures overcome reduce output brake.
